Get Involved

Clubs and organizations are a great way to help develop character and the skills that will benefit you in school, your career, and in life. Skills like commitment, leadership, effective communication, and being able to work successfully in a group all come from participating in a club or organization. Joining a club is a great way to make friends, develop leadership skills, and boost your college resume.

The 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project was founded in 1993 by Congresswoman Frederica Wilson in Miami-Dade County. In 2017, the initiative expanded to Broward County Public Schools, beginning with the Hallandale Magnet High Innovation Zone. Since its inception in Broward, the program has continued to empower school age boys by providing meaningful opportunities, mentorship, and access to valuable resources. The project’s mission is to intervene in the lives of young boys, in order to provide them with alternatives that will lead them away from a life of crime and violence.

Mission: Serve the intellectual and developmental (IDD) community by forming a lifelong connection between the organization and the Alumni. Through fundraising, volunteer opportunities, engaging programs and events, the Best Buddies Alumni Association will help to provide necessary resources to sustain our impact on the lives of all individuals and families involved.

Students can earn community service hours through volunteer work and school events. Club members can attend rallies, conferences, participate in workshops, and learn from educational professionals. The club promotes the values of service, leadership, and excellence in education.

The Human Relations Council (HRC) is a student-led club created to promote campus-wide tolerance,
support of inclusion, acceptance, and appreciation of all people in our school and in our community. In
addition, HRC strives to provide ongoing leadership opportunities for its members. It is open to all grade

The Marine Biology Club endeavors to raise awareness about the biological, chemical, and physical impact of humans on the environment through interactive workshops for the SHS and local community that explore the interconnectedness of several marine ecosystems. The members will also explore marine resources and services that create economic opportunities and provide potential career pathways that ultimately conserve local, national and international marine habitats for generations to come

Medical Debate Club

Sponsor: Ms. Barnes

The Medical Debate Club creates opportunities for students to discuss issues that impact the health and wellbeing of individuals within their community, nation, and the world. Members participate in workshops, raise awareness through public service announcements, create and teach informative lessons that are vertically aligned with the State standards to elementary, middle and high school-aged children, compete in HOSA, and host recruitment opportunities for students interested perusing a career in a health-related field. Members are also encouraged to explore the relationship between medicine and engineering, culinary, business, music, art, law and the military to develop teams that can better serve the common good in providing equitable healthcare to those who need it.

Medical Magnet

The Medical Magnet program provides work-based learning experiences for students seeking careers in medicine through the exploration of biomedical sciences. Members learn the skills needed to be successful in medicine while participating in real-world scenarios, stakeholder-lead workshops and take career-relevant classes where they receive certificates or certifications that are applicable to their post-secondary pathway.

Mentoring Tomorrow's Leaders (MTL)

Mentoring Tomorrow’s Leaders (MTL) is a peer-to-peer mentoring and student leadership program that serves students in grades 6^th – 12^th. Currently at 46 Broward County Public Schools, MTL is recognized as a premier mentoring program in the State of Florida. Since its inception in 2007, MTL has promoted academic advancement, pupil progression, student engagement, and successful school completion using the MTL Five Pillars, resulting in the program’s sustainability and success.

Purpose: The Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps is designed to instill in high school students a value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment. It prepares high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school, and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the student, community, and nation.

This Program Intends to:

• Develop leadership and build character.

• Create informed, patriotic, and responsible citizens.

• Develop responsible young adults who are physically, mentally, and morally fit.

• Develop informed and civic-minded young adults prepared for higher education, civilian careers, and public service.

The mission of the Staff Sunshine Club is to promote a positive, caring and supportive school environment by celebrating and encouraging staff members. The club spreads sunshine through acts of kindness, recognition, and support during both joyful and challenging times. By fostering unity, appreciation and teamwork, the Sunshine Club strengthens staff morale and builds a warm sense of community within the school.
